Gravity die casting is a manufacturing process used to produce high-quality metal parts with complex shapes and relatively smooth surfaces. It’s a type of casting method that falls under the broader category of die casting processes. The key characteristics differentiating gravity die casting from other casting methods are that (1) only the force of gravity is used to introduce the casting metal into the mold; and (2) a reusable (“permanent”) metal mold is used. It is usually made of steel or cast iron.
One of gravity die casting’s primary strengths lies in its ability to minimize porosity and air entrapment during casting. This results in components with heightened structural integrity and a reduced likelihood of defects.
The Processing Steps of Zinc Gravity Casting
1. Sand core making
- Steel sand core tool closed
- Resin sand mixture is poured into core tool.
- The steel core tool is heated to fuse the resion sand.
- Fused resin sand core is removed from tool .
2. - Fused sand cores are placed in cavities in permanent gravity casting mold .
- Steel gravity casting mold is closed
- Molten zinc is manual poured into gravity casting mold through feed
- zinc solidifies
- gravity casting mold opens
- Parts and feed system are removed from the gravity casting mold
3. Sand core is removed by vibration
4. Feed system is removed
5. Sandblast the parts
6. Powder coated the inner wall , which will form a stong & corrosion -resistant coating to protect and beautify the gravity casting part.
